July Calendar of Classes and Events

Amazing, I know! I’m posting this BEFORE July 1. Now that you’ve recovered from the shock, be sure to download the calendar, which includes class descriptions. Even if you’re not interested in classes for this month, the calendar provides a nice visual for days were closed during our crazy summer schedule.

Grab a July Calendar. Here’s the basic rundown of what we’re offering by way of classes in July:

Knitting:

Knit a Felted Bag ($25 – includes yarn and pattern). Learn the basics of felting by making a simple bag. Pattern can be easily modified to create bags of various sizes. [Friday, July 22, 10 am - 1 pm]

Tunisian Crochet ($10 for intro, $5 for new stitch). Also called Afghan Crochet, this process uses a long crochet hook to create a dense fabric that is perfect for many projects – including afghans, scarves, bags, and garments. You’ll learn the basic stitch. Please bring a worsted weight yarn and an “H,” “I,” or “J” Tunisian hook. Of course we have hooks and yarn available for purchase! [Saturday, July 16 from 10 am - noon; Wednesday, July 27 from 10 am - noon]

Tech Square Afghan – don’t give up if you feel you’re falling behind. Several of the summer blocks are REALLY easy (and quick!). Come to any Sit and Stitch, Knitting Group, of Tech Square session to get caught up!

Quilters:

Make an Advent Calendar ($10, plus purchase of Advent Calendar panel) It’s not too early to start on Christmas projects, and our selection of Advent Calendars offer a great, quick project to get the ball rolling. Bring your sewing machine and go home with a finished project (or at least the top all finished).

February Schedule of Classes and Events

Oh the chill! What perfect weather for knitting a warm sweater or working on a snuggly quilt. If you need some motivation or inspiration, look over our February schedule. You can download a schedule which includes a color-coded calendar (green for knitting/crochet, pink for quilting/sewing, and black for everyone!) and class descriptions.

You will notice that several of the classes are offered multiple times throughout the month. The way we work our classes is that you are paying for the project/technique you are learning. You may attend as few/many of the scheduled classes as you need to help you accomplish/learn the project/technique. For instance, the Basic Socks class is offered three times this month. Cost of this class is $20, and you may choose to attend one, two, or all three of the classes – or even Basic Sock classes offered in following months. There is no cost difference between attending one or ten – you are paying to learn to make the socks.

Stacy’s classes come with a lifetime guarantee. If you take a “Learn to Knit” class and then put knitting aside for a while only to want to start up again – you can come back and retake the class for no cost (you do need to sign up, though). Just need a refresher on casting off – pop in for a quick lesson during one of our knitting group or sit and stitch sessions.

To reserve your space you will need to pay for your class ahead of time. If you can’t make it to the shop before class starts, we can take a credit card over the phone to hold your spot. Cancellation policy: refund if cancel more than one week before class; credit if more than 24 hours before class starts; class fee forfeited if no show. We can refund class fee if we cancel class.

Here’s a quick run down of what classes are on the schedule in January:

Quilting:

  • Toothbrush Rug ($15) Learn to transform strips of fabric into a beautiful, functional rug. Class cost includes a starter kit and toothbrush needle.
  • Four in One Placemat ($20, includes template) -Take four coordinating fabrics – or even four very different fabrics and create a single placemat with four “faces.”
  • Block Party ($9/month or $32 for all 4 months). Our joint Block of the Month with The Dusty Attic and Robinanne’s Quilt Shop continues this month! It’s not too late to get started if you missed last month’s block.
  • Pinwheel Party (book purchase required, kits vary in price)
  • Birthday Tablerunner ($35, includes pattern and kit)

Knitting:

  • Crochet a Granny Square (free at Snow Hill Library). Turn your basic crochet skills into a fun square. You’ll learn the tricks to keeping your square, well, square!
  • Sonoma Sock ($30, includes kit). A beautiful sock with a lovely cable and rib detail made in Sock-a-licious. This is the 5th class in the Kollage Feed Your Creativity series. Previous sock experience recommended.
  • Basic Socks ($20, includes pattern). We’ll take you from the very beginning of constructing a cuff-down sock. Our preferred method of using 2 circular needles will be featured, but if you would rather use double points or magic loop we’ll be happy to accommodate you. You will need yarn (we recommend a self-striping yarn, and US 2 or 3 needles – all of which we have at the shop).
  • Tech Square Afghan ( $30/year or $10/month) Build your knitting skills on square at a time. New block each month. Book and kits available. This month we are working on the Increase Square, where you’ll learn four different increases. It’s not to late to join even if you missed doing block #1. You can get caught up!
  • Leafprints Shawlette ($20, includes pattern, plus yarn – kits available) Lovely shawl features stockinette stitch base with an easy lacy leaf border. Great first lace shawl project – but fun for more experienced knitters as well.

Fat Quarters – Deal of the Week

ETA: This deal has expired.

Last week we introduced a “Deal of the Week:” a special that will run on our online store for one week – and the more we sell the lower the price goes! Last week’s deal was a great success – the deal got to the lowest price offered. Here’s this week’s deal:

What: Fat Quarter Bundle

Fat quarters are quilter’s candy! Those lovely pieces of fabric (18″ x 22″) that coordinate and form a foundation for many a quilt or sewing project. All the fat quarters are 100% cotton.

The Deal:

We’re offering a 5 piece fat quarter bundle for $10 – a $6 savings!

If we sell more than 10 bundles… the price will drop to $8 a bundle!

If we sell more than 20 bundles… the price will drop to $6 a bundle! <<– Here we are! The price is falling! Spread the word – keep on buying and the price will fall lower for everyone!

If we sell more than 30 bundles… the price will drop to $5 a bundle – that’s more than 50% off!!

Tweet, post on Facebook, text your BQB (best quilting buddy) and spread the word!

The Details:

The “catch” is that we choose the fat quarters. You can select a genre (1930′s, greens, Asian, etc.)

You CAN order more than one (we encourage it!) and we’ll make sure you get a selection of bundles (unless you instruct us otherwise). If you love/hate a certain color (like purple) just let us know in the notes and we’ll do our best to fulfill your wish.

Deal is good until the end of the week (Saturday, February 5 @ 11:59 p.m. EST). Orders will be processed and mailed on Monday, February 7 (sooner if we hit the 30 bundle mark!).[weather permitting] And shipping is free! Local customers can pick up their skeins after Monday, February 7 if they wish.

All orders must be placed through our web store. Your credit card won’t be charged until the final price is set. (So if you order 3 bundles when the price is $10/bundle and it ultimately drops to $5/bundle you’ll only be charged $15 even though your original order will show your total is $30)
