There are not one, but two fabulous opportunities coming up for quilters and knitters to explore the quilt and yarn shops on the Delmarva Peninsula. The Fine Needle is participating in both events.
First up, is the “Shop Hop Comes to Us” event sponsored by the Heartland Quilters of the Eastern Shore. This takes place on Thursday, August 5, 2010 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Denton Volunteer Firehouse in Denton, Maryland. (400 South Fifth Avenue, Denton, MD 21629). While this event centers around quilting – with many a quilt shop in attendance, there will also be yarn shops! Door prizes, refreshments, and demos too! While you are in Denton, be sure to visit the Quilt Exhibit at The Foundry Arts Gallery (401 Market St., Denton, MD). The exhibit is on display July, August, and September. For more information on the show, call 410-490-4937. This event is free to attend. Sorry! I wasn’t clear – it is $2 for admission to the Shop Hop. The admission to the Exhibit is free.
September brings the third annual Eastern Shore Yarn Crab Crawl. During the entire month of September, crawlers travel throughout the Peninsula, visiting the ten participating shops. To become a crawler, you need to purchase a 2010 membership ($15) from a participating store. This entitles you to an official passport (details information about each shop), a commemorative tote bag, and best of all a 20% discount on yarn purchases at the participating shops for the entire month of September! If you visit all 10 shops in September, you qualify to be entered into the drawing for a grand prize (valued at over $250). There are a limited number of memberships available – so reserve yours today!
The passports are also available separately from the membership ($3), and offer great information about the 10 shops – hours, types of yarns they carry, specialties, etc. There are also coupons in the passport. You must have a membership to participate in the crawl (and get the discount), but it’s a great way for those not participating to get to know area stores and take advantage of the coupons!
More information about the 2010 Yarn Crawl can be found on their official blog.
